A wonderful weekend in Vegas. Beautiful sunshine, family and fun!
It was a fun day. We are all a bit tired from playing and soaking in the sun’s rays.
Tonight at Family Home Evening it was Sterling’s turn to choose a fun song. He wanted to sing “Ninja Bends.” We were at a total loss and told him to sing it first so we could learn the song. He says something about you know how everything bends…aha the light comes on, he wanted to sing “Hinges” like I’m all made of hinges cause everything bends.
So I guess we don’t have hinges we are all amazing ninja’s!!!
We have successfully survived and energetically endured the first week of school (started Aug 21). This year I was not anxious for summer to end, could have enjoyed a few more weeks. Summer was full of swim lessons, water parks, story time at the library, late nights, boating, computer games, more swimming, fireworks, family reunion and lazy days! It was a fun summer.
Kimball turned 12 and was ordained a Deacon in July, he seems to enjoy passing the Sacrament and participating in young men’s. His scout troop was invited to do the flag ceremony for the Utah Symphony at Thanksgiving Point Gardens, bonus: The whole family got in free for a fun concert and fireworks. He worked hard at Scout camp and earned 5 merit badges in four days. He is now in Junior high and is enthusiastically awaiting the day he will be the tallest in the house.
Calvin likes to be successful at new things. He tried knee boarding this summer and found great satisfaction in being able to kneel and stand! Like his brothers, he loves to join Justin, Hyrum and Chan for a game of League of Legends. Computer games are super cool, especially with cool uncles. Calvin is generally the clown in photos, watch out for his happy smiles.
Logan hosted his annual milk jug water fight. Generally it has been a 4th of July family event, but this year we invited neighborhood friends and had the longest most drenching water fight ever! Logan is either a gymnast or a monkey. He loves to climb the walls and door frames. He does love his gymnastic classes too.
Bridget is all girl. In June she had a dance recital. She took ballet at the rec center and performed a cute number with her class. She is often found experimenting with water and small containers. She is now in 1st grade and gets to walk home from school with the boys. I can’t believe 4 kids are in school all day! Bridget wanted to make spaghetti for Sunday dinner, but got side tracked and made a delicious fruit salad while I made the spaghetti. It was yummy.
Sterling melts hearts! He wins over about everyone he talks to with his smile and voice. He is four (he doesn’t say the r, “I am fo”). He thinks he should say every opening prayer in primary, and for a while the secretary let him
Sterling often asks if we can go hiking to Secret Lake again, it was his favorite part of the Diether family reunion. He is excited to start preschool tomorrow Aug 28th.
Eigen almost likes going to nursery. He is really good at being sad. He loves to eat “pops, Imbal” (translates to: otterpops with Kimball in the back yard). He is learning new words everyday, not always understandable, but super cute to see him get excited when you understand what he is saying. His favorite word, of course, is NO! He loves the outside world and has found a new love of driving the car. Silly boy.
Ammon took down the big boat project. It was a sad day to watch all that work be disassembled in a matter of 2 hours. On a happy note the transom was cut and turned into the swim platform for the blue boat and the keel became the race track for the family reunion, both have brought about much fun.
If you are looking for an easy read (it is intriguing and peculiar, contains a bit of foul language and the story interlaced with old photos is unique) try Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I read it for book club and enjoyed it.
Enjoying the outdoors and following the wandering Eigen, Kimball spotted a cute little bird in the peach tree. Poor little bird must have been scared, but never flew away, he just kept hopping along the fence and in the trees. We enjoyed quite a bit of bird watching!
Kimball earned his first aid merit badge and his second class rank in Scouting!
OK, maybe not what some might consider a bash, but it was a lot of fun to get together and eat cake/ice cream. Thanks for partying and thanks for remembering to wear your green, after all it was St Patrick’s day!
The exciting four layer cake. The rainbow of colors was very impressive to all the little girls!
Blowing out the candles.
We enjoyed one wonderful week of good health…actually (and very thankful) most everyone has been fairly healthy this year. Eigen got a 2nd ear infection the first of February.

One week on Augmentin he broke out in hives all over his body; he is allergic to penicillin. It took a week for the hives to fade and another week before the pain/itching disappeared.
It was a glorious week. A few sunny days to spend some time outside, a happy baby who was willing to play on the floor, all was well.
Then came this week….fevers, coughs, kids home from school sick, grumpy baby who wants to be outside…etc. It seems to be rotating fast through everyone. Here is hoping they are all back to school and healthy tomorrow.
Our little boy is one! Happy birthday Eigen. It is hard to believe he is already a year old.
It’s not a birthday without tears
Eigen was so sad when I pulled his hand away from the flame. He did not eat any cake, but he “yummed” lots of frosting!
Eigen is walking a lot now. Just this week he has been letting go and cruising frankenstein style. So fun. Happy birthday to our little fruit snack loving boy.
We enjoyed a very merry Christmas. It has been a festive month, more on that later. Enjoy a few pics of our Christmas morning.
Kimball was the first to wake up just before 7…so not too early.

Eigen not really into opening presents. He just wanted the little candybars that fit perfectly in his hands.
We started opening presents around 8, breakfast by 10 and Church at 1. Although we did go at 12:30 for choir practice. It was a wonderful Christmas day. We are blessed with good kids.
The following is a Christmas article written for the Diether Gazette.
Random tidbits: Ammon has been rebuilding boat engines. It was an exciting day when he started an engine! Kimball, Calvin, Logan and Bridget all got great report cards! Eigen has 3 teeth and 3 more about to burst through. Poor guy is getting 6 teeth within 3 weeks. Yikes. Eigen has discovered clapping his hands and playing peek-a-boo. He also is walking along walls and furniture, watch out world he is about to take over! He is an eating machine; loves food, not baby food. Sterling is my great helper. Loves to watch Super Why and play computer. Bridget is really into watching She-Ra. She loves Kindergarten and wears a dress pretty much everyday. Thank goodness for leggings to keep her warm. Busy as always.
Last Sunday eve we enjoyed watching the First Presidency Christmas Devotional. There were many distractions, for instance the sound on the TV would come and go thanks to Eigen’s busy little hands pulling on all the cables, so President Uchtdorf’s message really hit home to me. He commented that our efforts for a picture perfect Christmas do not always turn out. He said, “Christmas is really about the Christ…we, like the Wise Men of old, should seek the Christ and lay before Him the most precious of gifts: a broken heart and a contrite spirit. We should offer Him our love….emulate His example, and to go about doing good.” He went on to say, “we can rejoice even in the imperfections of the season.” Let me share, and rejoice, in some of the fun times we have had at this wonderful time of the year.
We finally decorated the Christmas tree on Dec. 3rd (need I mention the much impatience and nagging). There is something beautiful and magical of the twinkling lights and decorated tree. We put our tree in the corner this year, with not many decorations too low. We only had two ornament casualties during the decorating. Eigen enjoyed dancing to the music and trying to get all of the baubles!

I wanted to go to a live nativity. It happened to be the coldest night ever, but amongst grumbling and a sad baby, we did not let the cold stop us. Kimball really liked petting the camel and donkey. Bridget, Sterling and Eigen were a bit unsure and kept a safe distance from the animals. Inside, we got to see a large display of Nativities from around the world. It turned out to be a nice evening.

I look forward to the kids having a week off of school before Christmas. I hope to have more fun, probably not picture perfect, yet fun times together. My goal is to remember that “Christmas is really about the Christ” and to be more like my Savior. Merry Christmas to all.
