Ode to Summer

Summer has come and gone. We played hard and we were sorry to see summer come to an end, but alas school is back in session and cooler weather is upon us.

Ammon has been learning to wake board. He taught Kathy how to drive the boat, causing Eigen much distress not sitting on mom’s lap. This summer on the lake we have tried new things. The older boys tried skiing. Logan picked up wake boarding easily, Kimball and Kathy have tried with little success. Sterling likes to u-ski. Eigen even got out on a few hotdog rides at the end of the season.

Kimball spent 3 different weeks at scout camps. Calvin spent a week at 5th grade camp. Ammon took the Priests on a high adventure camp.

Bridget loves to dance and has found a new interest in hip-hop. She had her summer dance recital in June and participated in a dance camp during July.

Sterling is always busy with friends. Logan always loves a new challenge. Eigen is a “big boy” and we are pleased that he entered the world of the toilet trained in the spring.

We loved having Justin come visit in July. Always a highlight for the boys…an endless meal at IHOP and trying to surf on Flo Rider.

We loved the family reunion. It was wonderful to have so many of the family together. Spending time with family is awesome. We love aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents! Family is always welcome to visit!

Soccer season is in full swing. Sterling and Kimball are playing hard and having fun. Kathy got roped in to being Kimball’s soccer coach. Oh the fun things we will do for our kids.

Here’s hoping this is a good school year with 9th, 6th, 5th, 3rd, and 1st graders and Eigen at home.

Sample of Summer

Here is a glance at what we did this summer!

Summer:
Spending
Ultimately
Many
Moments
Enjoying
Recreation

Summer brought the familiar lake trips and new outdoor adventures for us!  We enjoyed hiking the Grotto in Payson canyon.  Camping at Yuba lake (minus the boat, because it was broken).  Bridget’s dance recital, ice blocking, soccer games, and the 4th of July fireworks just to name a few.

The kids loved the new U-ski and Kimball even attempted water skiing.

Back to school came all too soon.  Sterling is in Kindergarten and loving it.  Eigen enjoys mornings with mommy.  We love being a family.  We love all of you!

Labor Day Fun in the Sun

Eigen fell asleep!

How many cheetos can you fit in your mouth?

It was a fun day.  We are all a bit tired from playing and soaking in the sun’s rays.

Tonight at Family Home Evening it was Sterling’s turn to choose a fun song.  He wanted to sing “Ninja Bends.”  We were at a total loss and told him to sing it first so we could learn the song.  He says something about you know how everything bends…aha the light comes on, he wanted to sing “Hinges” like I’m all made of hinges cause everything bends.  :)  So I guess we don’t have hinges we are all amazing ninja’s!!!

Labor day weekend

The water is getting colder, the lake trips seem to have ended (at least for the swimming part), but we had one fun adventure over Labor day weekend at the lake.  Chan, Breezy, and Gabel had some exciting rides on the viper.  Logan was very brave and jumped off the front of the boat for the first time.  Although a bit cool, the water felt relaxing compared to the rocking waves while the boat was stopped for lunch.

We had a little trouble at the beginning.  We found “blue worms” actually a piece of blue rope in the engine.  Thankfully Ammon got it right out and we were able to have a great outing.

Rowbury Reunion Part 2

The Rowbury reunion was 3 fun filled evenings and one full Saturday.  Day 1:  the rodeo.  Day 2:  the adults went to Desert Star Theater to see a comedy called “My Big Fat Utah Wedding.”  Day 3:  humanitarian kits service project and weenie roast at David and Heidi’s home.  This is when I broke the good news that we are expecting!  Day 4:  Boating during the day.  Dinner and rockets in the eve.

A very busy and very FUN weekend!

Birthday times 2

Back in July we had days of birthday parties.  We celebrated Kimball’s 10th birthday early with pizza, doughnuts, and friends at the lake!  Very fun.

We had a family party and mooncrater cake on monday his real birthday…very important to celebrate on the actual day :)

Dart tag!  and watching a movie as a family…got pretty exciting and wild with darts flying during the movie.

Sterling’s 2nd birthday was July 20th!  We had a choo choo cake and present time…what could be more fun than a lawnmower so he can be just like Dad?

Happy birthday boys.  We love you!

4th of July Weekend

We enjoyed the 4th of July weekend with Ammon’s parents, Justin, Driel (and family), and Breezy (and Gable).  We had a nice trip to the lake with a great BBQ, dinner at Thai Village, and then fireworks in the evening.  It made for an exciting yet long, no nap kind of day. I didn’t have my camera on the boat, so only pics of the picnic site.

Justin grills a mean hamburger or hotdog!

Breezy poses just in time for the pic!

Fireworks in the evening.

More 4th of July to come!

End of June

Yeah…we have warm sunny days and the start of lake trips.  We went as a family mid June.  The water was pretty cold still.  The kids really wanted to swim…I opted to stay on the boat with Bridget!  The boys are really brave, Logan jumped off the hotdog, far from the boat, just to swim!  Oh kids are full of adventure!

Kathy and Sterling

Calvin, Logan and Bridget…we are fond of “no hands”

Sterling played on the hotdog instead of swimming in the cold water.

Driel, Evan and girls joined us for a boat trip the end of June.  It was lots of fun.

Driel holding Sterling, Bridget in front.

Taking easy rides for all the daring, and not so daring, little ones!

Always time for swimming…I think it is Calvin’s favorite part of going to the lake.

Sterling got his 2nd haircut the end of June.  He had long fine baby hair that needed a trim.  He is a handsome boy.

The 2009 Diether Family Reunion (July 30- Aug 2) was a big hit.  The kids can’t wait for everyone to get together again!  We had a long weekend packed with fun.

Thursday was craft time and swimming at scera pool.

Friday we went to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Open House.  In the evening we had a BBQ and Carnival!

The boys favorite booth…defeat the strongest man in the world, Justino!

Calvin and Logan watching the goldfish race.

Forget the bowling ball, it’s human bowling.  Sterling knocks down the pins.

No carnival is complete without prizes!  Sterling enjoys the bubbles.

Saturday started early with fishing.  Logan caught all the fish.  He was very thrilled.  The rest of us joined the fishermen later for a fun hot day at the lake.

Kimball and Elle enjoy a break on the beach.

Logan and Cleve prepare for more fishing.

After the lake we let little ones nap.  We had a book review and entertainment night.

Here we are performing our “pyramid of pachyderms”

Ta da!

Logan joined in on the drums during Mom, Dad, Chan and Cleve’s songs.

Sunday morning was time for family pictures and off to church.  Thanks to Breezy’s friend for taking the photos.

Here we are all ready for church.

and the funny faces…

The group shot

Monday (post reunion activity)  We had pizza dinner and went to Bridal Veil Falls…brrr cold water.

Kimball, Calvin, Logan and Elle enjoyed climbing the falls.

Sterling loved the water, but kept shivering…it was really cold water.

Girls:  Bridget, Moriah, and Cordie!

What a great reunion.  So wonderful to see everyone who could make it.   These pictures barely skim over the fun we had.  This was not just an ordinary family reunion…it was a family Extravaganza!

Celebrate Freedom

We enjoyed the 4th of July celebrations!  Of all the pictures I took, this picture of Sterling is my favorite freedom picture!

Hip Hip Hooray for the red, white, and blue….Gooooooooooo Freedom!

We enjoyed pre 4th of July time with Uncle Justin.  He came in on Thursday night or Friday morning depending how you look at it.  The kids woke up to the surprise of Justin being at our house!  We had some fun slip and sliders!  Ammon gave the kids a little help to get them actually sliding on their tummies.

Even Sterling went sliding…but he liked best to watch from the side line and play in the water!

Friday evening Grandma, Grandpa, and Chandler made it to town!  Sat the 4th was filled with a morning lake trip, bbq, pizza fest, popsicles and icecream and fireworks.

Chan and Kimball took the first ride.

Breezy and Grandma

Bridget, Logan, Moriah, and Kathy take it nice and easy!

watching the little fireworks show.

Glow sticks at the end of the fireworks were the biggest hit of all!

It was super to have a full day of family, food, and fun.  Thanks to Justin we had enough icecream to satisfy all for days.  It was a great party day, a good celebration, we love freedom.

Fun Friday

Greetings!  This is one of my favorite photos from the month of June!  So, Bridget can greet all who read this post about boating yesterday!

We finally had a truely warm day with lots of sun and no rain.  We took our dinner and headed for the lake.  We picniced on the shore and then launched the boat.  We had a really fun evening.  Too bad I forgot the camera.  Bridget and Logan both felt comfortable to let go of the boat to “swim” with mom.  Sterling even splashed his feet in the water.  Kimball and Calvin were back and forth between the boat and the hotdog.  Just when we thought we were done, Logan wanted more time riding the hotdog…so he took some wild rides all by himself!  I was surprised he didn’t fall off, he just kept grinning and whenever we stopped he would say “no, I’m not done.”

Truly Fun Times!

Lake Trips

Do I have to wear this life jacket?

Bridget says “slower daddy”

The boys are brave this year…”faster!” and trying no hands or standing!

We have had lots of rain and stormy days…but still have found ourselves at the lake twice.  The water was quite choppy last Saturday morning, but we had a successful boat trip to test out the work Ammon had done on the engine and battery switch.

On May 30th we were “stuck” on the lake.  The boat would not start back up after we had stopped for swimming.  Ammon found the problem, the battery switch had melted.  Ammon got us fixed up to get home and then fixed the connection with lots of help from Sterling.  Playing on the boat is wonderful (for all the kids).
